A Hidden Vermeer |
|
The Woman with a
Pearl Necklace, (right) is one of Vermeer's three exceptionally beautiful works
that represent a solitary young lady in a light filled room. However, the painting we
now see is very different from Vermeer's original conception. A neutron autoradiograph (left) reveals
many significant alterations that he made in order to achieve an absolute masterpiece
of simplicity and intimacy. A reconstruction of the "hidden" Vermeer
will demonstrate how and why these changes were made. virtual reconstruction of the original version 1 2 3 4 5 6 |
